Stephanie Lynn Donahoe

Stephanie Lynn Donahoe, 61, of South Charleston, West Virginia, passed away on April 11, 2025, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Stephanie is preceded in death by her mother, Orita Jean Bonnett, and grandmother, Anna Eugenia Webb.

Stephanie is survived by her daughter and best friend, Amanda Donahoe; one beloved sister, Jennifer Grady (Michael); one brother, Duncan Bonnett (Delilah); and three nephews, Alex Grady, Ben Grady, and Chris Grady. Stephanie is also survived by her two bonus daughters, one great-niece, two great-nephews, and many special friends and loved ones.

Stephanie was a local of South Charleston, West Virginia. She graduated from South Charleston High School in 1981. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in accounting from West Virginia State University. Stephanie spent her career working for Associated Architects and Pickering Associates, where she took great pride in her work. She especially enjoyed the events she was able to partake in through her work that allowed her to give back to the community that she loved.

Stephanie was fearless, strong, protective, and funny. She loved horses, spending time at the barn, pickleball, music, and being surrounded by her family and friends. However, Stephanie’s greatest joy in life was being a mother to Amanda. From hours spent on the phone together to hiking trips at Summersville to attending Barry Manilow concerts, they made countless memories that made up a life well lived.

A celebration to honor the life of Stephanie will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, with Pastor William Basham officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The service will follow at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association.

John Edward Grandon

John Edward Grandon, 84, of South Charleston, passed away on April 13, 2025, at WVU Medicine Jackson General Hospital.

John was born on June 9, 1940, in Hundred, West Virginia, to the late Glen Edward Grandon and Virginia Lee Main Grandon. He grew up in Charleston, graduating from Charleston High School, Class of 1958, where he helped plan class reunions for the 1950’s classes.

John loved sports. He was the place kicker for the Charleston High School football team, played catcher on the Marshall University baseball team, played golf on the Dupont Chemical plant’s golf league, played softball for his church league team, coached the basketball and baseball teams that his children played on, refereed high school football for the WVSSAC for over 35 years, worked the finish-line at the Charleston Distance Run for decades, and was a season ticket holder for WVU football for more than 40 years.

John was also a hard worker. In his high school years, he would deliver newspapers, and then as a father, helped his children do a Sunday paper delivery route. His career was with the Dupont Chemical Company, retiring from the Belle plant.

John was blessed to meet the “love of his life” – Sharon “Bunny” Eads -to whom he was joined in marriage on January 24, 1959, and enjoyed 57 anniversaries with her.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Glen Grandon and Virginia Grandon; and his beloved wife, Sharon “Bunny” Grandon. He is survived by his children: Mark Grandon, Kim Heath (Ron), and Mike Grandon (Shelley); grandchildren: Joshua (Brittany), Lindsey, Dylan, Haley, and Colin; great grandchildren: Alex, Bentley, Anthony, James, Piper, and Brooklyn; and his faithful, furry companion, Luci.

A Service to Honor the Life of John will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, with Rev. Cindy Briggs-Biondi officiating and Rev. Monty Brown bringing the eulogy. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service.

Terry Reed

Terry Keith Reed, 75 of Charleston passed away after a long illness on April, 12, 2025.

He was born on Jan. 21, 1950 to Warren G. Reed and Colleen Reed.  Terry was employed by McClure Wholesale and later was in auto sales in Charleston.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Warren "Butch" Reed; a sister, Carolyn Reed; and his grandson, Jacob Alec Reed.  Surviving is his daughter, Melissa (Ken) McMillen of Pittsburgh PA, and his son, Brian Reed of Charleston; grandchildren, Hannah and Cade McMillen and Emily and Kagen Reed; brothers, Chuck, Mike (Teresa) Reed, Gary (Gerry) Reed; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be at 7:00 pm, Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Snodgrass Funeral Home in South Charleston, with visitation from 5-7 pm. Arrangements are in care of Snodgrass Funeral Home.


James "Sonny" Howard Glenn

James “Sonny” Howard Glenn, 91, of Alexandria, VA, passed away on April 5, 2025, at Inova Hospital in Alexandria, VA.

Jim was born in Olcott, WV, and graduated from Washington District High School, where he made many good and lasting friendships. After graduation, Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army and spent part of his service in Korea. After his discharge from the Army, he later moved to Alexandria, VA, where he was employed by Piedmont Airlines, which was later acquired by Eastern Airlines. Jim loved to travel, and he used his employment at the airlines to visit many places. Later in life, Jim, and his friend, Ralph Novoa, started a very successful business restoring older houses in the D.C. area. Jim was also a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Alexandria, VA.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Howard Glenn; mother, Ellen De Bord Glenn; sisters, Imogene Coon (Charlie), Alice Moon (Billie Ray), Mary Ellen Glenn, and Selma Cooper (Charles); and a niece and nephew.

He is survived by his sister, Janet Jenkins (Mitchell); seven nieces; a nephew; long-time friend, business partner, and caregiver, Ralph Novoa; and a very special friend, Felix Najarro.

A graveside memorial service will be held for Jim at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston, with Rev. Greg Hudson officiating.

Garry Stewart

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Garry “Turtles” Stewart on April 8, 2025, at the age of 68 after a short, sudden illness. Garry was born on March 20, 1957 in Charleston, WV to Doyle and Donna Stewart, and the younger brother of Michael.

Garry was a longtime resident of Cross Lanes and a devoted WVU fan.  For more than four decades, his fall Saturdays were spent on the Blue Lot where he was always one of the first on the lot.

When not on the Blue Lot, Garry could be found at the Cross Lanes Nautilus where he spent countless hours on the treadmill and interacting with his gym family. It was at the gym where he met his girlfriend Michele, whom he adored and with whom he was looking forward to embarking on many future adventures.

Above all, Garry loved to brag about his kids, Sarah and Rob, and his grandchildren, Katie, Cam, and Beau.  He wouldn’t miss one of Katie’s plays, went to as many of Cam and Beau’s ball games as he could and was impatiently awaiting the arrival of his newest grandchild, Lucy, in July.

Anyone who knew Garry would say he was one of their favorite persons to be around.  Truly one of a kind.

A celebration of Garry’s life will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, on Monday, April 14th at 1:00 p.m.  Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.. Interment will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.

Garry Robert Stewart

Garry Robert Stewart, 68, of Cross Lanes, WV, passed away on April 8, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Snodgrass Funeral Home. Geraldine Jackson

Geraldine Burdette Jackson, (89) of Charleston, WV, passed away April 6, 2025. She was born in Belle, WV, and graduated from DuPont High School in 1953 and the University of Charleston in 1972. She was a member of Phi Alpha Theta for history scholarship and received a Master's Degree at the College of Graduate Studies in 1976. Known as "Deanie" and "Geri," she was employed by the Kanawha County Board of Education and taught for 25 years at Alum Creek Elementary School.

Mrs. Jackson was a member and served six years as Regent of the Anne Bailey Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a state officer in WVDAR from 2010 to 2013.

Her husband of 35 years, George Jackson of Charleston, WV, preceded her in death. She was previously married for 19 years to Bob Hobbs of East Bank, WV. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Fay Goodwin Burdette; brothers, Francis, Okey, Harry, Allen, Howard, and Bob; and sister, Mary Huey. She is survived by sons, Dr. Robert Dean Hobbs of Charleston, WV, Joe Hobbs of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Kuparuk, Alaska, and John Hobbs (Kella) of Beckley, WV.

Grandchildren Sarah Gray of Oklahoma City, OK, Brian (Ally) and Mark Hobbs of Ponca City, OK, Stacy Byus (Kris) of Denver, NC and Thomas Hobbs (Rebecca) of Sherrills Ford, NC.

Her great-grandchildren include Adalynn, Aven, Adriel, Marvel, Carter, and Brecken Hobbs, Lucia and Fitzgerald Gray of Oklahoma, and Kenadee, Grayson and Barron Byus of North Carolina. Mrs. Jackson is also survived by numerous Burdette and Huey nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to Honor the Life of Geraldine will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston with Pastor Greg Blake officiating. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am at the funeral home.

Hazel L. Childress

Hazel L. Childress, 95, of South Charleston, WV, passed away on April 4, 2025.

Hazel was born on January 28, 1930, to Guy P and Virginia “Cecil” Simpson Childress. She graduated high school at 17 and attended Morris Harvey College, graduating at age 21, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. She began teaching math at South Charleston High School and retired after 45 years of service there.  During that time, she obtained a Master’s of Education from West Virginia University. Upon retirement, Hazel continued to volunteer at South Charleston High School until 2019, impacting many lives.

She was a lifelong member of The First United Methodist Church of South Charleston. She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Sorority for over 70 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles, Carl, and Guy Childress; sisters, Hattie Kish, Doris Shank, and Betty O’Daniels.

Hazel is survived by her sister-in-law, Katie Childress; and over 40 nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 4, 2025 at First United Methodist Church, 905 Glendale Ave., South Charleston, with Rev. David M. Biondi officiating.

Thomas Eugene Potter

Thomas Eugene Potter, a retired attorney from the firm of Jackson Kelly, PLLC and community leader passed away on March 31, 2025.  He was born on June 20 (West Virginia Day) in Pittsburgh, Pa., the oldest son of E. W. Potter and Dorothy Studebaker Potter who predeceased him as did his siblings, Judith Potter, Sandra Potter Jones and Harry F. Potter.

Mr. Potter is survived by his wife, Jean B. Potter and their triplets, Christopher W. Potter, D. Alexandria Potter and K. Victoria Potter. His children also include, Sharon L. Potter, Barton C. Potter and Matthew E. Potter from a former marriage. He also has several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from West Virginia University and his Juris Doctor from West Virginia University School of Law.  While an undergraduate student, he was a member of Summit of Mountain and a four-year member of the varsity track team which he captained his senior year.

Potter was an active attorney after his graduation from West Virginia University College of Law until his retirement from Jackson Kelly, LLP in 1999 and was Counsel to the Firm until his passing. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a judge advocate and an associate and partner in the Charleston law firm of Woodrow, Kizer and Stead until May, 1968 until he joined Jackson Kelly.

During the years of his active practice, Mr. Potter was a member and leader in the Business law Department focusing on administrative and commercial litigation, contracts, natural resources, corporate, real estate/property law, eminent domain, transportation, zoning and leases.  During the last five years of his practice, he served as the Chairman of the Firm’s Executive Committee.

Over the years, Mr. Potter was actively involved in the legal, political, governmental and civic affairs in West Virginia.  He served eight years as an elected member of the West Virginia Legislature and as Chairman of The Republican State Executive Committee. He is the past president of the West Virginia Bar Association, a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, a Life Fellow of the West Virginia Bar Foundation and member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, as well as other professional affiliations.

Mr. Potter’s community activities have involved many facets of the state and city, including chairmanships of the Charleston Chamber of Commerce, Charleston Renaissance Corporation, the Business and Industrial Development Corporation (BIDCO), the National Institution for Chemical Studies, Capitol Market, Inc., Advantage Valley, Inc. and the YMCA. He is a former member of the West Virginia Library Commission, the Board of the University System of West Virginia, the West Virginia University Board of Governors, and the Board of the Snowshoe Institute. Mr. Potter has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the West Virginia University Foundation, Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences of West Virginia, Charleston Alliance and past member and chairman of the Advisory Board of the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center at West Virginia University as well as a member and past president of the Charleston Rotary.

He served for more than 15 years as a member of the Board of Directors at the Charleston Area Medical Center, (“CAMC”) and Chairman of the Audit Committee as well as a member of the Executive Committee. He was a member of the National Advisory Council of the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center at West Virginia University.

In the private sector, he was a board member at the R.H. Kyle Furniture Company and a board member of West Virginia Kids Count. He served as a member and past Chairman of the board of the Mid-Atlantic Technology, Research and Innovation Center, Inc. (“MATRIC”)

In 2009, Potter was the recipient of the West Virginia Bar Association’s Award of Merit. Additional awards include the Spirit of the Valley Award for leadership and volunteer work in the Kanawha Valley, the Order of Vandalia (WVU’s highest award) and membership into the Business Hall of Fame at Marshall University. Mr. Potter also received the Alumni Recognition Award from the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University and the recipient of the Hazo Carter Presidential Award from West Virginia State University and the James R. Thomas II Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Charleston Renaissance Corporation and the Paul Narres Fellow of the Charleston Rotary.

Tom was an avid sportsman, whether it be skiing, tennis, mountain biking, golf, or simply running, he gained camaraderie through shared experiences, friendly competition, and the bonds formed with fellow athletes. In his later years, he became an active leader and participant in the senior sports movement and helped form and served as president and member of the board of the West Virginia Senior Sports Classic, Inc. He participated in the National Senior Games primarily in basketball but also volleyball.

Tom profoundly impacted many lives, shaping the state with his remarkable wisdom, kind spirit, and relentless determination. He will be deeply missed.

Nancy Lee Taylor Cyrus

Nancy Lee Taylor Cyrus, 74, of Hurricane, WV, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at her home.

Nancy grew up in South Charleston, WV. She graduated from South Charleston High School, Class of 1968. She retired as the Front-End Department Leader/Customer Service Manager for the Kroger Company after 36 years.

Everyone enjoyed being around Nancy, because she was always the life of the party, with her vibrant personality and crazy sense of humor. She was a firecracker in a small package. She loved spending time at the beach with her friends and family.

Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Dolores Bowman Taylor; her father, Julian R. Taylor; sister, Tina Gay Taylor; mother-in-law, Dorothy Adkins Cyrus; and father-in-law, Clyde S. Cyrus.

She is survived by her husband, Scott A. Cyrus; sisters: Shirley Young, Donna Arbogast (Paul), and Terry Miller (Jim); brother, Jerry Taylor; sister at heart, Peggy Kidd (Jim); nephew, Andy Arbogast; and nieces: Shelly Bowles, Jessica Miller, Erica Riley, and Taylor Reid.

A Service to Honor the Life of Nancy will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, with Pastor George Webb officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
