Rev. Robert Edward Dean, 76, of Rand, WV, passed away on April 29, 2024, at CAMC General Hospital.

Robert was born to the late John Robert Dean and Ella Cinda Jordan Dean on February 6, 1948. He was a graduate of East Bank High School, class of 1966. Robert furthered his education and worked for Union Carbide, Kanawha County Schools, and retired from Norfolk Southern railroad. He was always involved in community services and loved supporting various charities. But Robert was best known for his preaching of the Gospel, being an Ordained Elder in the Church of the Nazarene, starting in ministry as an Associate Pastor to the late Rev. Roy Welch at the West Side Church of the Nazarene and then becoming Pastor of the Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Rand, where he served for 40 years.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, John Robert and Ella Cinda Dean; his first wife, Janet L. Hudgins Dean; brothers, Stephen Dean and Ellis Dean; and sister, Patti Lyles.

Robert is survived by his wife, Rev. Dorothy Cook Dean; children: Robert Edward Dean, Jr., Amisha Lawana Dean Hall (Addison), Robert Hairston, Reese Childs (James), Tim Hairston (Christina), and Monroe Hairston (Cassandra); 17 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sarah Harmon, Flora Adams (Tom), and Gwendolyn Joyce Dean; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Homegoing Celebration for Rev. Robert Dean will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Belle Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. Dr. Mervin Smith officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
