William Eugene White

William “Bill” Eugene White, age 75, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026. Bill was born March 3, 1951, to the late Patricia A. Haley and William N. White. He grew up in South Charleston, WV, and graduated from South Charleston High School in 1969. Over the course of his life, he has resided in Dunbar, WV, Hurricane, WV, Charleston, SC, and LeRoy, WV.

Through dedication and a strong work ethic, Bill built a distinguished career in broadcast television, spending decades managing TV stations for WCHS, WVAH/FOX, WOWK, and WQCW. He was also a previous owner of The State Journal newspaper. Outside of his professional life, Bill embraced leisure and the open road. He loved traveling to Myrtle Beach, riding his Harley-Davidson to Sturgis, and hitting the golf links. He was a man who appreciated the finer things in life- gourmet food, luxury trips, tailored suits, whiskey, cigars, motorcycles, fast cars, beautiful women, and chocolate milk. Following retirement, he purchased a sprawling farm in LeRoy, WV, where he loved watching his goats, spending time with his family and dogs, and enjoying the peace and quiet. He spent his final year as the resident hellraiser and food critic at Sweetbriar Assisted Living Facility.

Above all, Bill was a devoted father, grandfather, son, husband, mentor, and friend. He was tough, but incredibly generous to those he loved. He was a strong leader who could always be counted on for sound guidance and a good laugh. His family is eternally grateful for the safe harbor and beautiful life he provided. He will be missed beyond words by many.

Bill was preceded in death by his son, Robert Tanner White; his wife, Lorenelle White; his brother, David White; and his parents. He is survived by his children, Jaime Rinehart (Trevor) and Andrew White; stepchildren, Amber Myers and Erik Fielder; ex-wife, Debbie Bagby, ex-wife and longtime companion, Rhonda White; and his cherished grandchildren, Parker, Sophie, Cordelia, Luke, and Maddy.

A service celebrating Bill’s life will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Home in South Charleston on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Visitation with the family will begin one hour prior, at 10:00 AM.

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a Ride!'”- Hunter S. Thompson
