Eugene (Gene) Bishop, 94, of South Charleston, passed away on May 2, 2024, at Magnolia Assisted Living in Hurricane.

He was a member of the Rock Lake Presbyterian Church and retired from Union Carbide Tech Center, with 47 years of service. Gene served in the US Army, and upon returning to Charleston, he met his future wife, Day. He enjoyed pitching fast pitch softball and bowling on the Carbide R&D teams, was an avid golfer who loved playing with his sons, as well as friends and co-workers. Jink, his nickname from childhood, always had a joke and loved all of his family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine, father, Ted, and sister, Sarah Frail. Gene is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dayneze; sons, Gary (Karen), Greg, and daughter, Gina Cunningham (Dave); 7 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

A service to Honor the Life of Gene will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Snodgrass Funeral Home in South Charleston, with pastor Rev. Dr. Patricia Jarvis officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in South Charleston. Family and friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday before the service.
