David Little

David Little, 87, of South Charleston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 29, 2025.

He was the devoted husband of his beloved wife, Kathy, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Together, they raised three children: Jerry Little of Eastlake, Ohio; Rachel Lester (husband Chris Allred) of Milton, WV; and Amanda Little, who preceded him in death in 2021.

David was born in Hylton, Kentucky, on May 25, 1938, to the late Ella Branham and Millard Little. He was raised in the home of his mother and stepfather, John Branham. One of six siblings is survived by his sisters Mae Branham of Princeton, WV, and Ruth Bailey of Vansant, VA; and his stepbrother, Lacy Justice of Asheboro, NC. He was preceded in death by his sister Ruby Branham and his brother Kenneth Branham.

He was a proud and loving grandfather to six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Faith (Tyler) Walker of Elliston, VA; Dustin Little of Jolo, WV; Derek (Samantha) Little of Atco, New Jersey; TJ (Katie) Lester of Cross Lanes; Matthew (Tesla) Lester of Kanawha City, WV; and Reagen Lester, who preceded him in death in 2023. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Charlie and Bodie Lester.

David was a longtime member of Little Zion Old Regular Baptist Church, where he was affectionately known as “Candy Man” for always having a bag of candy to share with everyone.

In his younger years, David was a wild man in the best sense—he had a passion for landscaping, baseball, horse-trading, and caring for animals of all kinds. His zest for life was matched only by his gift for storytelling.

David had a playful and creative spirit. He was known for his love of checkers (proudly proclaiming himself the “Checker Champion”) and for making beaded bracelets for “all the pretty ladies,” handing them out the same way he shared candy at church. He also created and wore unique pieces of jewelry that reflected his bold personality and unmistakable flair.

Above all, David was a good husband, a loving daddy, and a true original. His laughter, stories, and joyful presence will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be missed beyond words, but we take comfort in knowing he was greeted with open arms by his mother, daughter Amanda, granddaughter Reagen, and the many beloved animals who went before him. Special thanks to his caregiver, Wendy and Nurses with Hospice Care.
