Michael Stewart Greene
Michael Stewart Greene, a friend of Jesus, went home to be with the Lord on March 21, 2026. He left this world from the same house he was born in on December 20, 1940. He was a retired painter for the City of Charleston, and he lived in Washington DC for 20 years before coming home to take care of his mother, Roma. He was also an active member of the Loudendale Free Will Baptist Church.
After being saved, he had a zeal for the lost and witnessed to everyone he met, wanting to educate others about Christ, and he was used to lead many to make the decision to accept Jesus as their own personal Saviour.
He was also known for his favorite past time of making folk art crosses from clothespins, and he would hand them out everywhere he went as he witnessed to others.
Michael was privileged to go on mission trips to Bolivia and Honduras, where he assisted in building churches and schools for the less privileged children and their communities. One of his greatest passions was the prison ministry program, and he spent 25 years working, praying for, and supporting the Kairos prison ministry at Mount Olive Correctional Center.
Needless to say, he will be greatly missed by many family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hersie C. Greene and Roma Mae Pickens; a wife, Donna (Ducky) Gossage; brother, Terry Greene; sisters, Wilma Meadows and Patricia (Dent) Dixon.
Survivors to cherish his memory include his wife, Myra Ratliff Greene of Charleston, WV; son, Michael Shawn Greene and partner, Anne Leslie Bellamy of Ponte Vedra, Fl; daughters, Elizabeth Myers of Bremerton, WA, Patricia Rumbaugh of Sophia, NC, and Millie Johnson of Redby, MN; granddaughter, Ava Young of Kincaid, WV, with whom he had a special relationship with, helping lead her to Christ; sister, Sandra Jada of Hollywood, FL; sister-in-law, Joann Greene of Charleston WV; as well as many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and more.
A special thanks to his niece, Teresa Greene of St. Albans, for the love and devotion she showed during his last days.
A Memorial service will be held on a date and time to be announced at a later time.
Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, is handling the arrangements. (http://snodgrassfuneral.com)

As Mikes first wife and the mother of his son, Michael Shawn Greene, I see he redeemed himself later in life. May he rest in peace.
Mike was a man with a fervent love for God and for people. He always expressed gratitude for God’s love and grace extended to him. He used his life, the good and the bad, to share with and show to others God’s grace, mercy, and love.
I first met Mike and Donna in the 90’s on my Walk to Emmaus. We became friends who shared meals, stories, laughter, and prayers.
My husband and I are grateful for the blessing of knowing Mike and calling him friend. Although we are deeply saddened to hear of his passing, we look forward to seeing him again.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep.
