Wilda Bennett McComas

Wilda Bennett McComas, 104, was born on April 9, 1921, and passed away on January 4, 2026, at the home of her daughter in North Ridgeville, Ohio.

Wilda was the third youngest of the eleven children of the late Oliver and Callie Bennett of Jumping Branch, WV. She was the granddaughter of Jacob and Rachel Cochran Bennett and John Vest. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Everett McComas, and son-in-law, Richard Belt. She was also preceded in death by her 10 brothers and sisters: Roy Bennett, Opal Gross, Ray Bennett, Reo Bennett, Eula Stanley, Ola McCutcheon, Wanda Lilly Kirk, Rexel Bennett, Roscoe Bennett, and Ronald Bennett.

Wilda and Everett met at a square dance and eloped to Ohio three-years later. They lived in Baltimore, where Everett worked in a shipyard building Liberty ships. He later joined the Navy, and Wilda went back to the Bennett family home in West Virginia. Later, she and Everett moved to Marmet, WV, where they lived the majority of their lives.

Wilda was a remarkable woman who lived through the Great Depression and World War II. She saw many changes in the world; with the improvement in telephones, the inception of the television, and many, many other modernizations of the world around her.

Wilda was an exceptional seamstress. She was also a clerk in the dry goods department at Keffer’s Store in Marmet, where she created patterns for customers and made sample clothing for display. Later, Wilda worked as a bookkeeper for a realty company. She was an active member of the Marmet First Baptist Church, where she established a library, served on many committees, worked in Bible School, and even made curtains, seat cushions, and scarves for the sanctuary. Along with her husband, Everett, she volunteered as an election poll worker for twenty years in Marmet.

One of Wilda’s life-long wishes was to obtain her high school diploma. Upon the death of her mother, she quit school before her senior year to care for her father, who was suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Her hope was to go back to school, but that did not happen. In 2021, when she turned 100, she was awarded an honorary high school diploma from Summers County High School (formerly Hinton High School). Her longtime dream came true!

Wilda is survived by her daughter, Rondell Belt of North Ridgeville, Ohio; her son, Todd (Becky) of Marmet; two grandchildren: Rae Dawn Hadinger (David) of Rochester, NY and Ryan Belt of North Ridgeville; and three great grandchildren: Henry Hadinger, Reagan Belt, and Alysa Belt.

A Service to Honor the Life of Wilda will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the Marmet First Baptist Church, Marmet, WV. James David "Jim" Stump

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved James David “Jim” Stump. Jim was born on November 16, 1954, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Chester Richard Stump and Virginia Fulk Stump. He passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family. A man of quiet strength, kindness, and faith, Jim lived his life as a true gentleman, guided always by devotion to God and to those he loved most.

Born in Charleston, Jim was raised primarily in Clendenin, West Virginia, where he spent most of his childhood and formative years. He attended Herbert Hoover High School, graduating in 1973. Jim went on to attend West Virginia University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Graphic Design in 1977. During his time at WVU, he was a proud member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and played an integral role in the design of the iconic Flying WV logo-an enduring symbol cherished by generations of Mountaineers.

It was while working at Twin Towers that Jim met the love of his life, Sabrina. Their bond was immediate and enduring. Following graduation, Jim accepted a position with Marriott Corporation in Atlanta, Georgia. His career with Marriott took him across the country in various leadership roles over several years. Yet his greatest calling was always home, and his love for Sabrina ultimately brought him back to West Virginia. They were married in 1983 and built a life grounded in faith, family, and deep devotion to one another.

Upon returning to West Virginia, Jim served on the executive committee that helped open the Charleston Marriott Town Center, where he held the role of Director of Services. In the late 1980s through the early 1990s, he served as General Manager of Kanawha Country Club before transitioning into a successful career in real estate with Old Colony Company.

Jim was a devoted husband and a loving father. He and Sabrina welcomed their two children in 1984 and 1986, roles that brought him his greatest pride and joy. He loved his children dearly and found his deepest happiness in simply being at home with his family. Sundays were sacred, and family dinners together were a cherished tradition that remained constant through the years. Faith was an integral part of Jim’s life and sustained him through both joy and adversity. He was a proud and faithful member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral, where his devotion to God guided him through life’s most challenging seasons.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Sabrina Stump; his cherished children, Dr. Matthew D. Stump and Dr. Jacqueline H. Stump; his sister, Michele (and husband Tom) of Morgantown, West Virginia; his brother, Rick Stump (and wife Cindy) of Charlotte, North Carolina; his nephew, Jacob Stump (and wife Christy); and the loving members of the Howard and Teeter families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Richard Stump and Virginia Lee Fulk.

In his leisure time, Jim found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He had a passion for cooking and was especially known for making exceptional pies. He was a master gardener, loved spending time at the beach, and took great delight in Christmas, his favorite holiday, especially decorating and creating a warm, festive home for his family. Reserved, quiet, kind, and easygoing, Jim was known for his gentle demeanor and steady presence. He was, in every sense, a gentleman.

Jim lived a meaningful life defined by love, faith, and devotion to family. He leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering integrity. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Johns Hopkins University, the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Witt Durden, Dr. Jeremy Stapleton, Dr. Mitch Rashid, and the late Dr. Steven Jubelirer for their compassionate care and dedication throughout Jim’s journey.

A service to honor the life of Jim will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at St. George Orthodox Cathedral in Charleston, West Virginia, officiated by Reverend Alex Mackoul. Burial will follow immediately at Sunset Memorial Park in South Charleston.

Freddie Alan Sizemore

Freddie Alan Sizemore, of Charleston, WV, passed away at home on Monday, December 15, 2025, after a long battle with cancer, and cancer related issues.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Mamie Sizemore; brothers, Earl and Carl Sizemore; sister, Kathryn Crawford; and also, a nephew, James Sizemore.

Freddie is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cherrie; son, Aaron (Olesea) of PA; grandchildren, Luna and Wyatt; brother, Roy (Pat) Sizemore (Hurricane, WV); sister, Andrea (Ken) Mierop (Grafton, OH); and his toy poodle, Gizmo, who ran to the couch to greet him every morning.

A resident of the Kanawha Valley, Freddie was raised in Clay County, and graduated from Clay County High School. From there he went on to attend WV Technical College, earning a degree in Chemical Engineering. After working for the former Air Pollution Control Commission for 15 years, he finished his career and retired from Union Carbide/DOW, with over 30 years of service.

Freddie enjoyed those warm days at the Marmet Locks fishing, or a spot in the shade along the Elk River up around Clendenin, where he could cast his line.  He had a green thumb and could grow anything he planted, from a flower to a vegetable. Nothing was better than holding his first grandchild on his lap, teaching her to fly paper airplanes, and being surprised one morning when she wanted him to fix her ponytail. Then along came another, a grandson who wanted only papa when he was around, asking him to read to him or build with him. Freddie loved it!

Freddie attended Elk Hills Presbyterian Church for many years, where he was part of the building and grounds team, helping where/when he could. Most recently, he attended Village Chapel Presbyterian Church.

The family offers a special thank you to Dr. John Lewis, Family Physician; Dr. Ahmed Khalid, Oncologist; and the wonderful nurses in CPICU for their care and support during his final weeks. Also, a thank you for the care of Hospice nurses, Stacey and Thomas.
