On April 10, 2026, after a courageous fight with an extended illness, John David Brumfield passed peacefully in his sleep in Charleston, WV. He was born in South Charleston, WV on November 25, 1950, during an historic snowstorm; he made an entrance that day and continued to make his presence known throughout his life.

David attended South Charleston High School, Class of 69 and attended Morris Harvey College. He then became a Journeyman Bricklayer/Stone Mason out of Bricklayers Local #9 in Chas., WV. After working as a Journeyman Bricklayer/Stone Mason, David founded Zachariah’s Ltd. in South Charleston, WV  followed by the  Pill-O-Quilt Co. in Hamlin, WV.

What he was most proud of was being a “girl Dad” to his daughters, Kristi and Kelli. Throughout his illness, Kristi and Kelli demonstrated unwavering love and dedication, ensuring that their dad’s needs were always met and that he was cared for with compassion. Their presence and support brought him great comfort, his love for them and their love for him was immeasurable.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Matilda Brumfield, his mother and father, Wetzel and Opal Brumfield, his brother, Daniel Brumfield and nephew, Scott Brumfield.

David is survived by his daughters Kelli (Phil) Haynes; Kristi (Ricky) Workman. His sisters; Ann (Roy) Mallory; Mary Meeks; Jane (Brumfield) Glaspell; the mother of his children and longtime friend, Smokey, his best buddy; nieces and nephews and many friends.

Special thanks are extended to his neighbors, Sonya and Mike Bruer and past caregivers, Rosie Duckwyler and his “Boo” Shawna Harper. He appreciated their help and loved each of them.

A service to honor the life of David on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston with Rev. George Webb officiating.  Friends may visit from 12:00 Noon until service time.
