Donna Potter
Donna Lynn Potter, 68, of Dunbar, WV, went to heaven on March 24, 2023, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with glioblastoma.
She was preceded in death by her father, Reverend Robert Pate.
Surviving loved ones are Donna’s beloved husband of 47 years, Bill Potter, Sr.; mother, Jane Pate of South Charleston; brothers Bobby Pate of South Charleston and Johnny Pate of Orlando, FL; children Billy Jr. (Ashlee) Potter of Barboursville; Kimmy Potter of South Charleston; Stevie Potter of Brockport, NY; grandchildren Jaeclinn Hall, Bryson Potter, Kaedlee Potter, Brayden Potter, and Linnlee Potter; and “Bella,” her adored Great Dane.
Donna was a devoted Christian and active member of South Charleston First Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed many years of serving in various ministries including the church nursery and assisting with health screenings for seniors. She loved her “Challengers” Sunday School class and participated in numerous outreach opportunities.
Donna graduated from South Charleston High School in 1973. In 1975, she earned a nursing degree from Marshall University. Throughout her extensive nursing career, she worked at several Charleston-area hospitals and served in home healthcare. She retired from Brickstreet/Encova in 2020. Being a nurse was much more than Donna’s profession, it was her calling and passion as a lifelong caregiver to her patients, friends, and family.
Donna exemplified what it means to be a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She and Billy have a love story that began 50 years ago as high school sweethearts. Donna’s greatest joy was in loving and caring for her family. Her grandkids adored her and called her “Nonna.” She loved attending all their sporting events and supporting them in every area of life. As she and “Bella” began each day with a nice, long walk, Donna knew the true meaning of contentment and the joy found in simple pleasures.
Donna’s relationship with Jesus Christ was the single most important aspect of her life. She believed in the power of prayer and served as a “praying friend” for countless people throughout her lifetime. She is now receiving her eternal reward in the presence of her Savior. But for all who knew and loved her, she will be greatly missed.
A service to celebrate Donna’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 29th at 1:00 pm at South Charleston First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Kent Estep officiating. Burial following at Sunset Memorial Park in South Charleston. Friends may call on Tuesday, March 28th from 6-8 pm at Snodgrass Funeral Home in South Charleston.

Donna was one of the sweetest, most caring person I have ever known. I will miss her smile and her asking me how I was doing every Sunday at church.
I had the privilege of getting to know Donna more in depth when we served the 2 and 3 year old children’s class a few Sunday mornings. I found her to be one of the sweetest souls with great dedication to our Lord.
We are praying for all of you. She will be greatly missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Donna at Brickstreet:/ Encova . Donna was the sweetest person that I have ever known and never was there a doubt of where she was with our Lord and Savior. So sorry for the families loss but she is heavens gain. Praying for peace and comfort in this difficult time.
I remember playing with Donna when I was a little girl. All the trips we made to visit my cousins, Aunt & Uncle left me with so many great memories of those times; especially camping out in the front yard and catching night crawlers. She was a year and a half older, and I can recall that I looked up to her. She was such a pretty girl and always so soft-spoken and kind.
I’ve had the privilege of seeing her numerous times over the years and loved keeping tabs with her by texting and occasionally talking on the phone. She was still the same sweet girl I knew as a child. Our mothers were sisters and Donna made sure to give them the chance to visit by driving her Mom to see my Mom as often as she could.
Donna was always thinking of others, doing for others and giving to others. I am so sorry for the great loss in her family’s lives. She will always hold a special place in my heart and this world will miss her presence dearly.
Shine on sweet Donna ~ the ripples of love and compassion you shared in abundance will live on forever.
Donna was without a doubt one the sweetest souls I have ever known. She was the epitome of what every Christian should be. Although it has been over 30 years since I have seen her, her loving,Christ-like example left an indelible mark on my life that I have never forgotten. I am so very sorry for your loss. Donna was a mirror of her mother. She was a devoted daughter, mother and devout Spirit-filled Christian who was loved by all and loved all. Sandra and I have know Donna since she was a teen. She was a blessing to all the churches in which her father , Bob Pate and mother Jane pastored. We are happy that she is not suffering anymore but has entered into the presence of her Jesus and has been reunited with her daddy, Bob, and all the others who have gone on before. She had a friendly smile, and her laughter was unforgettable, which made one’s heart smile.

I had the opportunity to work with Donna for about two years. She was so very kind and caring. I’m very sorry to hear of your loss.
My memory of her from high school to our attendance to South Charleston Nazarene church is always of Donna being so sweet and friendly. She and her family have been in our prayers since I learned of her illness. We both offer our condolences to your family and will continue to keep you in our prayers.
