David Hannon

After a lifetime of working heartily, staying active, and serving others, David Timothy Hannon, 77, hung up his hat and is no longer available for earthly service to his family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances. Having faithfully spent his life helping those around him, David moved on to be with his Lord and Savior on June 1, 2026. He will reunite with the love of his life, Linda Eileen Ray Hannon, who preceded him in death in 2012 after 44 years of marriage and with Karen Lee.

While his work here is complete, the legacy he leaves behind will continue through the family he loved so dearly. David was the proud father of David Timothy (Valerie) Hannon II of Soper, Oklahoma, and Kathryn Lynn (Dale) Nance of Apple Grove, West Virginia.

Known affectionately as PawPaw, Popsicle, and Grandpa, he leaves behind grandchildren Amanda Hannon of Fairmont, West Virginia; Kristen Hannon (Scott Combs and son Jeremiah) of Huntington, West Virginia; Jacob Hannon (Sidney and daughter Hallie) of Durant, Oklahoma; Skyler Nance (Lindsey) and LillyAnne Nance of Apple Grove, West Virginia; and Summer Nance (Zach) of Leon, West Virginia.

He is also survived by his brother, Steve Hannon of South Charleston, West Virginia.

David spent nearly his entire life in the Spring Hill and South Charleston communities. He was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church and retired from Dodson Pest Control after many years of dedicated service. Retirement did not slow him down. He thoroughly enjoyed visiting with friends, exercising, and sharing lunch at the South Charleston Community Center. David was looking forward to his 60th South Charleston High School reunion to visit with others whom he had lost contact with through the years.  More than anything, David enjoyed taking care of people. Whether family, friend, neighbor, or stranger, he was always ready to lend a hand, share his time, or offer encouragement.

David’s life was not measured by wealth or recognition but by the countless acts of kindness he performed and the many lives he touched along the way. He lived by the Lord’s command to “Love one another as I have loved you”.  He leaves behind a family who loved him, friends who will miss him, and a community made better because he was part of it.

As David would likely prefer, rather than mourning that his hat has been hung up, let us be grateful for the many years he wore it well.

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the South Charleston Community Center Senior Lunch Program. Payable to City of South Charleston, 601 Jefferson Road, South Charleston, WV 25309.

A service to Honor the Life of David will be held at 11:00 am, Friday June 5, 2026 at Bethel Baptist Church, Kentucky Street, South Charleston, with Pastor Dave Lee officiating. Friends may visit at the church from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
