
Margaret A. (Peggy) Maddox Cavender
Margaret A. (Peggy) Maddox Cavender, 85, of Charleston, WV was called to her heavenly home on September 12, 2026. Born March 15, 1941 to George F. Dorsey II and Ruth Carter Dorsey, Peggy grew up in South Charleston, where she proudly served as co-head majorette for the Black Eagles, graduating in 1959.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her infant son; her first husband Thomas I. Maddox; her second husband Harold L. Cavender; and her brother Richard O. Dorsey. She is survived by her children: Mylinda Maddox of Charleston; Molly McMeans (Jerry) of Elkview; and Bobby Maddox (April) of Gainesville, GA. Her grandchildren: Kelsey McMeans, Whitney McMeans, Briana Maddox (Nikki), Josh Maddox (Skyler), and Jon Maddox (Kait). Great-grandchildren: Sophie and Madelyn Lewis, Avery Maddox, Maizie Maddox, and Jack Maddox. Her brother George Dorsey III (Charlotte), her sister Nancy Hill (Wayne), her sister-in-law Sharon Dorsey, and a host of nieces and nephews. Step-daughter Vickie Ovington (Jeff), step-son Fred Cavender. Step-grandchildren Ellen Cottingim (Joel), and William Cavender. Step-great-grandchild Hunter Cottingim.
Peggy dedicated more than 30 years to the WV State Tax Dept, retiring as a supervisor for the Revenue Division. She later worked for Federal Coal Company. Peggy was an accomplished seamstress, she spent many years sewing, lovingly making outfits and Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren. She created costumes for the early production of Hello Dolly! for the Light Opera Guild. She was a 65+ year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Torchbearer Chapter, a member of the Westside Mothers Club, and a 50+ year member of Bream Memorial Presbyterian where she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 19th, 1:00 PM at Snodgrass Funeral Home with Rev. Dawn Adamy officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

and the amazing team at Hubbard House Hospice.
