Garry Burdette

Garry Alan Burdette, 79, of Charleston passed away peacefully at home on July 25th, 2026. He was born on August 4th, 1946, to Wilson (Bill) Burdette and Betty Louise Weir in Charleston, WV.  Garry graduated from Charleston High School in 1965.  He was a Vietnam War Army Veteran and was employed by General Electric for 30 years as an Industrial Motor Mechanic. Garry was known for his sense of humor and his goofy nature.  He loved to tease loved ones and was an avid food lover, but his greatest passion was bowling.  He bowled for over 50 years in many leagues around the Charleston area.  He was most proud of bowling a “300” in 1985.

Garry was preceded in death by his father, Wilson; his mother, Betty; and his stepfather, Gene Carr. Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Rae Burdette; daughter Dawn (Todd) Gardner of Charleston; daughter Kellie (Courtney) Overstreet of Charleston; son Garry (Tabitha) Burdette II of Cross Lanes; sister Eyvonne (Wayne) Greene of Rocky Mountain, NC; Brother Jay (Jessica) Carr of Louisville, KY; grandchildren Kayla, Aaron, Savannah, Katherine, Alexander, and Elizabeth; and 3 great grandchildren.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Rachel Carr who was his Visiting Angel for over two years, and Fresenius Kidney Center in Dunbar, who took care of him in his last days.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
