Freddie Alan Sizemore
Freddie Alan Sizemore, of Charleston, WV, passed away at home on Monday, December 15, 2025, after a long battle with cancer, and cancer related issues.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Mamie Sizemore; brothers, Earl and Carl Sizemore; sister, Kathryn Crawford; and also, a nephew, James Sizemore.
Freddie is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cherrie; son, Aaron (Olesea) of PA; grandchildren, Luna and Wyatt; brother, Roy (Pat) Sizemore (Hurricane, WV); sister, Andrea (Ken) Mierop (Grafton, OH); and his toy poodle, Gizmo, who ran to the couch to greet him every morning.
A resident of the Kanawha Valley, Freddie was raised in Clay County, and graduated from Clay County High School. From there he went on to attend WV Technical College, earning a degree in Chemical Engineering. After working for the former Air Pollution Control Commission for 15 years, he finished his career and retired from Union Carbide/DOW, with over 30 years of service.
Freddie enjoyed those warm days at the Marmet Locks fishing, or a spot in the shade along the Elk River up around Clendenin, where he could cast his line. He had a green thumb and could grow anything he planted, from a flower to a vegetable. Nothing was better than holding his first grandchild on his lap, teaching her to fly paper airplanes, and being surprised one morning when she wanted him to fix her ponytail. Then along came another, a grandson who wanted only papa when he was around, asking him to read to him or build with him. Freddie loved it!
Freddie attended Elk Hills Presbyterian Church for many years, where he was part of the building and grounds team, helping where/when he could. Most recently, he attended Village Chapel Presbyterian Church.
The family offers a special thank you to Dr. John Lewis, Family Physician; Dr. Ahmed Khalid, Oncologist; and the wonderful nurses in CPICU for their care and support during his final weeks. Also, a thank you for the care of Hospice nurses, Stacey and Thomas.
