Rosemary Adams Stiwinter
Rosemary Adams Stiwinter, 85, of Charleston, WV, passed away on July 27, 2025 at the Arthur B. Hodges Center, located at Edgewood Summit in Charleston, WV.
Rosemary was born in Monaville in Logan County, WV, to the late Chester Farris and Lucy Clark Adams. She grew up in the mining community of Holden, WV, and enjoyed going to the Holden Reunions over the years. Rosemary retired from Bell Atlantic (Verizon) with over 40 years of service. She was an avid runner and competed in many local events, often taking awards for first in her age group. Her crowning accomplishment was completing the Charleston Distance Run. She was a lover of the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, camping, and backpacking. Rosemary was a voracious reader, and a member of the Universalist Unitarian congregation in Charleston.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Stiwinter; sister, Charlotte Dowdy; and brother, Chester Latimer Adams. She is survived by sisters, Joyce Bradshaw and Aralia Rock (Joe); daughters, Dr. Lucy Kara Shamblin (Mansford), Katrina Beth Reed (Steven); stepdaughters, Martha Walker (Owen) and Kathy Mills; granddaughters, Abigail Watkins (Travis), Delana Reed, and Sarah Reed; step granddaughter, Amber Munroe (Timothy); four great-grandchildren; and her beloved cats, Bart & Charlie.
The family wants to thank Andy Barker and the amazing Memory Care staff at the Arthur B. Hodges Center for all their care and support over the last five years.
A Service to Honor the Life of Rosemary Adams Stiwinter will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial Veterans State Cemetery, with Pastor Ginna Taylor officiating. Interment will immediately follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the ASPCA or a local animal shelter.
