Corene Mundy
Corene Samples Mundy, 99, was born July 9, 1925, and passed away on March 11, 2025. Corene was born at Little Sycamore, Clay County West Virginia. She attended Clay and Clendenin High Schools, graduating from Clendenin in 1943.
After graduation she worked 4 years at AEP in Charleston. Years later Corene was employed at First National Bank of South Charleston from 1966-1975, followed by her employment as the Office Manager with the South Charleston Sanitary Board until 1987. She was a charter member of the First United Methodist Church in South Charleston.
Corene was the daughter of the late Michael D. Samples and Marie Caldwell Samples Carruthers. She was also proceeded in death by her husband, John D. Mundy; sister, Arlene Samples Hayes; daughter-in-law, Karen Santrock Mundy.
She is survived by her children, Ann Marie (Larry) Kennedy of South Charleston, Rebecca Mundy of Huntington, and J. Douglas Mundy of Hurricane; grandchildren, Kara Workman (Ryan) Orwig, Bret A. Kennedy, Matthew E. Kennedy, Jacob M. Workman, J. Michael Mundy and Kaitlyn S. Mundy; five great grandchildren.
A service to Honor the Life of Corene will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, March 17, 2025 at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, with Rev. Paul Mateer officiating. Interment will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park’s Chapel of Remembrance, St. Albans. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service beginning at 12:00 Noon at the funeral home.
