Ora Mae Sams
ORA MAE (GOUGH) SAMS, a long-time resident of South Charleston, West Virginia, aged 101, passed away on December 12, 2024.
Ora Mae was born on June 11, 1923 in Topeka, Kansas. She was predeceased by her husband, Jesse Lee Sams, brother, James Earl Gough, her parents, Flossie Mae (Higley) Gough and John Gough, and her nieces Sylvia Ann (Gough) Miller, and Carolyn June (Gough) Churchwell.
Ora Mae is survived by her daughters, Barbara Ann (Sams) Clevenger [Danny Eugene] of Columbus, Ohio and Linda Kay Sams of Wheeling, West Virginia; two grandsons, Danny Eugene Jr. and Charles Michael; three great-grandchildren, and her beloved dog, Matewan.
Ora Mae loved her horses and dogs. She enjoyed showing horses with Linda. She was an active gal. She did not learn to swim until she was about 30 years old, and she went all the way through Life Saving and enjoyed swimming, riding her bike, and caring for her pets.
A service to Honor the Life of Ora Mae Sams will be held at Noon, Wednesday, December 18, 2024 with visitation beginning at 11:00 am until service time, at Snodgrass Funeral Home, 4122 MacCorkle Ave., SW, South Charleston, WV. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Donations may be made in her memory to Kanawha-Charleston Humane Assoc.
