Mary Virginia Miller
Mary Virginia Vansickle Miller, age 95, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025. She was born June 11, 1930 in Hinton, West Virginia, to the late Boyd and Alease Vansickle.
She grew up in Hinton, WV, where she met the love of her life, Sterling “Ted” Miller. They were married in 1950 and moved to Whitesville, WV, later settling in Sylvester, WV, where they lived for over 50 years.
Mary lived a rather “June Cleaver” life. She took great pride in her home, her children and her grandchildren. She loved to cook, sew, and she was a creator of a wide variety of beautiful handcrafts. Mary especially loved the holidays, the decorating, the baking and most of all, the socializing that came with all of that. Mary retired from the United States Postal Service as a Postmaster in 1997.
Mary was well known for her feisty nature, and she will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Sterling James Miller; her brother, Boyd, Jr.; and sister, JoAnn Fox.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Wright and husband Steve, and Margaret Ann Santmyer and husband Stephen; grandchildren: Heather Johnson (Jeromy), Laureen Church (Cody), Nicholas Santmyer (Whitney), Emily Tucker (Nick), Jonathan Santmyer, Haley Bobinger (Alex); and great grandchildren: Haley, Brennan, Benson, Briggs, Noah, Eli, Mason, Marley, Kyleigh, Sterling, Adam and Hadley.
A service to Honor the Life of Mary will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Sylvester Baptist Church in Sylvester, WV. Friends may visit from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Entombment will follow in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, WV.

Mary was one of the cornerstones of Sylvester. She was always involved in community activities and events. Anytime I ran into Mary, she was kind, full of energy, and never at a loss for words.
Mary and Ted were always classy, respected, highly moral individuals and true leaders of our community. The fruit they produced did not fall far from the tree, as shown in their daughters, Linda and Margaret.
Sylvester will never be the same as this remarkable generation of individuals passes on.
Linda and Margaret Ann, we have all been blessed to have had individuals like your parents in Sylvester. Debbie and I offer our thoughts and prayers for you and your families as you travel through this valley.
