Julian “Jule” Heath Sockman
Julian “Jule” Heath Sockman, 102, passed away on June 28, 2025, at the Hubbard Hospice House in South Charleston, West Virginia. Jule was born in Moundsville, West Virginia, on March 3, 1923, and was raised by his aunt Stella. Shortly after graduating from Moundsville High School, Jule enlisted in the U.S. Army and was eager to serve his country in World War II. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, and received a Purple Heart and an honorable discharge. With the GI bill, Jule obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Marshall University, where he met his wife Rose Ellen, to whom he was married for 50 years. Jule and Rose Ellen made Kanawha City their home and raised their two boys, Roger and Dean. He worked for the Department of Highways for 33 years before enjoying retirement with travel, playing golf, and the births of his adored grandchildren, Ellen Ann, Drew, and Chloe.
Jule remained active in the community over the years as an active member of the Village Chapel Presbyterian Church, the Charleston Lions Club, and delivered Meals on Wheels for nearly 20 years. He was also a long-time supporter of the Charleston Light Opera Guild and Kanawha Players. Jule was also a member of the Marshall Alumni Association and an avid Marshall sports enthusiast, always eager to cheer on his Thundering Herd in all sporting events. Jule was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, whose presence will be truly missed.
Jule was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Ellen, and brother, Ted. He is survived by his sons, Roger (Rita) and Dean (Debbie); three grandchildren, Ellen Ann (Max), Drew, and Chloe; sister-in-law, Judy, and her 4 children and their families (Stuart, Jenny, Keith, Susan); nephew, Grant Archibald (Elaine); great-nephew, Matthew; and cousin, Rick Hanna (Debbie).

To Dean and family,
Love, hugs and prayers to you all. May the loving memories of a wonderful Dad carry you through life and get you through the difficult days ahead. What a blessing to have someone in your life for so long. What an inspiration to us all. He was absolutely the kindest person I ever met.
