Janice “Jannie” Eplin, 79, of South Charleston, WV, passed away on March 6, 2025, at the Hubbard House.

She was born on August 7, 1945, in Parkersburg, WV, the only child to Hubert Matson and Margaret Yoho Matson. Both parents preceded her in death, along with a daughter, Cynthia, and granddaughter, Caitlyn Lanier. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Albert “Oggie”; daughter, Sherri Eplin-Lanier (Danny); grandchildren: Cole Lanier (Sarah), Corey Lanier, Cameron Lanier; and great grandson, Teddy Lanier.

Jannie graduated with a B.S. from West Virginia State University and a M.S. from West Virginia University. She was an elementary school teacher for 25 years before retiring. After a 3-year absence, she began teaching another 15 years as a substitute. She was a member and past president of the Alpha Delta Kappa honorary Sorority.

Jannie’s biggest joy in life was her three grandsons, who she loved dearly. She also enjoyed reading, music, baking, gardening, and traveling. She spent a lot of time helping her husband in their rental property venture; interior painting was her specialty.

Jannie was the silent heart and soul of her family, a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother offering endless support, wisdom, and kindness. Countless memories were created with those she held dearly.

As a teacher, Jannie’s passion for education inspired generations of students. They loved her animated voices she used in reading books to them. She believed in the power of education to shape lives.

A memorial service to honor the life of Jannie will be held at 1:00pm, March 11, 2025 at Snodgrass Funeral Home with Rev. Pete Thompson officiating. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
