Helen Louise Lanham Schultz
Helen Louise Lanham Schultz, 88, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, after a brief illness. Lovingly known by all as “Mom” and “Grammy”, she was surrounded by her family and the music she loved.
Born in Marmet, WV, in 1937, Helen spent nearly her entire life in Kanawha County, raised in the Nazarene church, and surrounded by family. While building tanks in the 1960s, she was part of a federal lawsuit against FMC to fight for equal pay for women. Helen was union to the core. As a single mom, she took her preschooler to union meetings and picket lines, and later, to march against the Vietnam War. Her last job was working at Union Carbide, from where she retired.
Helen loved the ocean, spending countless summers in and around Myrtle Beach – whether camping or in her condo, she treasured it all. Her travels spanned the U.S., down to Cancun, and even to London, England. Passionate about food, she enjoyed everything from Ethiopian cuisine to fried bologna and sliced tomatoes. Yet she also found joy in quiet moments: reading, gardening, and bird-watching – often on her porch sanctuary with her fur-baby, Rosey.
Helen deeply loved her family, often sharing stories of her childhood and family history – proud of the bonds forged and the ties that held them close. She expressed her love through sharing silly stories, heartfelt “I love you’s,” calls of concern, and praise for a job well done. She was one of a kind whose absence can never be filled.
Helen was preceded in death by her mother, Sarah Marguerette Easter Sutphin Beverage; father, James Lanham; second father, Clarence Clarke Beverage; sisters, Linda Myers and Carol Kuhn; son-in-law, Robert Revels; and beloved husband of 48 years, Michael Schultz. She is survived by her daughters, Dianne Revels and Heather Schultz Mealer, both of Charleston, and Misty and husband Tony Lawrence of Georgia; grandchildren, Joseph and wife Cayla Revels of South Carolina, Karen Lawrence and Danae Lawrence, both of Georgia, Meaghan Lawrence of Ohio, and Tre Revels of Charleston; great-grandchildren, Jada Revels-Smith and Lily Revels, both of South Carolina; family friend, Bobby Johnson; and many other caring relatives, in-laws, and friends.
Finally, whenever you see a pink rose, please be reminded of Helen “Mom” “Grammy” Schultz, and her life, love, and legacy.
To honor her wishes, Helen was cremated and will have no Memorial service. Online condolences may be made at http://snodgrassfuneral.com. Arrangements are in care of Snodgrass Funeral Home.
