Douglas Robert Cooksey, age 73, of Kanawha City, formerly of South Charleston, passed away Saturday July 19, 2025 at Charleston Healthcare Center, assisted by Kanawha HospiceCare, after an extended illness.

He was born September 22, 1951 in South Charleston, son of the late Robert C. and Bessie Fisher Cooksey.  He is also preceded in death by his in-laws, James A and Ruth Charles Friend; and his grandmother Anne Cooksey.

Doug was a veteran of the US Army National Guard, Dunbar.  He was a member of Dunbar AF&AM # 159, (secretary), Scottish Rite (secretary), York Rite, Beni Kedem Shrine (Highlanders) and was a 33 Degree Mason.  He was also a member of Odd Fellows.

He was a chemical operator for Union Carbide and Dow Chemical Co., for over 30 years.  He was a 1969 graduate of South Charleston High School and enjoyed going to their monthly luncheons.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Friend Cooksey; and several cousins and friends.

A service to honor Doug’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday July 25, 2025 at the mausoleum chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston.  A Military Service and Masonic Service will be performed in his memory.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that friends donate to their favorite charity.
