Curtis Butcher Jr.

Curtis Butcher Jr, 58, of Scott Depot, WV, passed away on August 27, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born on September 5, 1966, in Logan, WV, he was a loving father to Shayne and Sierra, and an adored Pop Pop to Hindley, Landyn, Winnie, and Liam.

Curtis was a 1984 graduate of Chapmanville High School, where he played short stop for the men’s baseball team. He then spent some time at Kent State University. He was a hard-working and dedicated man, spending 32 years working for UPS. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family and his passions. Upon retirement, he moved to Charleston, SC, and subsequently Ocean Springs, MS, to be near his son where he was stationed in the Air Force.

He deserves to have his long years of fatherly love honored. He was a man of courage, compassion, and kindness, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Curtis’ hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He enjoyed spending time in the sun, working with flowers, fishing, and often spent his weekends watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed spending Spring days watching the Cleveland Guardians. His love for golf was something he shared with Shayne, leaving a mark that will never fade.

He was a loyal servant to God. Curtis loved sharing the Word and warmth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, with as many people as possible. He particularly enjoyed sharing verses with his daughter, Sierra. His favorite verse was John 3:16. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” He found his love for God at Mosaic Church in Ocean Springs, MS, and was a member of the Bible Center Church upon returning to WV.

Curtis joins his parents, Curtis and Carrie Butcher; brother, John Edward Butcher; and brothers-in-law, John Motto and Richard Sima, in Heaven. He is survived by his son, Shayne (Chelsey) Butcher, and his daughter, Sierra (Brandon) Williams; loving grandchildren, Hindley and Landyn Williams, and Winslow and Liam Butcher; doting sisters, Peggy Motto, Linda Sima, Patricia Dygutowicz, Carol (Victor) Casey, Christine Butcher, and Gwendolyn Butcher; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, many friends, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

The family will receive guests to pay their respects and offer condolences between 6-8 PM on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at the Bible Center Church. A funeral service will be held the following day, Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at the Bible Center Church, at 11 AM., with a committal service following at Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Shayne Butcher, Brandon Williams, Chad Butcher, Billy Russell, Brent Sutphin, and Craig Wills.

We find comfort in knowing that Dad’s legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
