To the Damron Family:
I met Dave and Snub about 40 years ago thru the Cowie Clan. I agree that these two fellas were top notch in my book. I have always had the utmost respect for the Damrons, the Cowies and also the Samples Family. I have fond memories of my time living in Spring Hill on Roxbury Street. My thoughts are with the Damron Family and pray for Snub’s goodness to continue living through his children, grandchildren and other family members.
“Snubby”, as we knew him in school, and I played together on the Spring Hill Jr. High basketball team. He was a good guy and a good friend.
Attended South Charleston HIgh School with “Snubby”. My deepest symmpathy to his family, He always had a smile to share.
Snub Damron! A small businessman with an honest and concerned interest for his customers. Snub was small in size with a heart of a Giant.
I will miss our business relationship, but most of all I will miss my friend with a Giant Heart.
Rest in peace my friend
My dad, Doug Ellis, loved working alongside both Charlie and Snub at Damron Electric. He was a wonderful man who will be missed by many. Love and prayers to the family.
A Letter To My Big Brother
September 26, 2023
Snub,
I have so many memories of our short lifetime together. There were good times, bad times, funny times and even crazy times but never did I ever think about THIS time where I would be left alone without you, my big brother.
We used to laugh a lot together. One of the funniest memories I have was the story our Granny told about why we called you “Snub.”
She said when you were a little baby, you would cry yourself to sleep at night and make a short, gasping breath that sounds like you were saying, “Snub, Snub, Snub!”
And the name stuck.
You can’t make these things up.
Another memory: one day our mother told us to sit down and she said, “Your Daddy wants to buy us a new 1957 Chevrolet!”
We were so excited, it was our first car.
You were the first to say, “I have a nickel I can give him.” I pitched in 25 cents that I’d been saving and David gave his only dime.
It was your idea to give Dad all we had.
Even as a kid, you gave everything you had to make everybody happy and you continued to do this all your life.
THAT’S WHO YOU WERE, MY BIG BROTHER!
Over the past few days, as the family has been sharing memories, we realized how honored we were to have known the warm, kind, and gentle man you were.
◦ Aunt Bockie was honored to be one of the first to hold you in her arms the day you were born and to call you “SNUB.”
◦ David and I were honored to call you “BROTHER.”
◦ CR, Tammy, and Katie, were honored to call you “DAD.”
◦ Kelly, Kim. and Kevin were honored to be your step-children.
◦ Janie was honored to be your wife and soulmate. When we couldn’t be with you, she stood by your side and held your hand for 36 years. She made you so happy. We are forever grateful to her.
◦ Katelyn, Charles IV, Shelby, Wyatt, Dakota, Montana, Amanda, Emily Ann, Reagan, and Samantha were honored to call you “POPPAW.”
◦ And your step-grands were honored to call you “POPPAW SNUB.”
◦ Lately, great-grandchildren have come into the family. WOW!! How blessed and rich in kids you were!
Snub, you meant a lot to all of us. We never told you this but your actions and love helped shape the people we have become. Your life and memory is ingrained in all of us.
We wondered how we’d carry on without you knowing each breath would be a struggle, but now we realize you gave us a gift that would last the rest of our lives – the gift of love, of memories, and of the bond that unites us as the Damron Family.
So, Snub, hold your head up high in Heaven,
adjust your crown, and walk proud inside those pearly gates.
You’ve given us the strength to carry on—we’ve got this!
WE ARE YOUR LEGACY!!
Love you,
Sis
