Anita G. Lorenzo
Anita G. Lorenzo, 67, of South Charleston, died peacefully on May 19, 2024, from breast cancer, at home surrounded by family.
Anita was born on June 22, 1956, in Boone, NC. She grew up on a farm with her parents, 2 great-aunts, and 3 sisters. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the School of Pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Anita then earned her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas at Austin, where she met her husband, David Elliott. She worked as a clinical specialist pharmacist in various healthcare settings for over 40 years, primarily in West Virginia. Anita was a mentor to many during her career and loved to teach.
More than anything, Anita valued family. Her most cherished roles in life were wife, mother, sister, and daughter, and she was overjoyed to become a grandparent in June. Anita gave her family the greatest gift: unconditional love. In life, she enjoyed gardening, crafting, playing piano, making biscuits, spending time with her dogs, and practicing her faith. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and their church choir and handbell choir.
Anita was preceded in death by her mother, Viola; her sister, Luisa; and her great-aunts, Crettie and Almedia. She is survived by her husband, David; her children, Matthew, Sarah, and Mary; her sisters, Linda and Tina; her father, Manuel; and her dogs, Lucy and Ruby.
A Funeral Mass to Honor the Life of Anita will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 24th, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in South Charleston, with Fr. John Finnell presiding. Family and friends may visit before the service at 10:00 am and after the service during a provided luncheon at Blessed Sacrament. Anyone unable to attend in person may join via the service livestream, https://youtube.com/@blessedsacramentwv?si=jMEXKugMmTTLEisL.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the CAMC foundation to help support the CAMC Med Rehab Unit. Donations may be mailed to the CAMC Foundation, 3414 Staunton Avenue SE, Charleston, WV 25304. Please note in memory of Anita Lorenzo.

Anita was the kindest, most genuine Lady! We worked together many years ago when I was pregnant and very sick. She made it a point to check on me each day to see how I was doing. 18 years later when my son chose Appalachian State as his undergraduate school, she loved joking that it was because of her influence on getting him safely into the world. It was always a joy when we would catch up on our families- she loved being a Mom and was so grateful for the family she and David had made. I am so sorry that I did not know she had been ill. I would have wanted to offer care for her in the same way she did for me so many years ago. God bless all of you. Denise Burgess
Does anyone know if Dr.Lorenzo ever met a stranger . If so they did not feel that way for long.
I looked forward to her visits at work and could always count on her advice just like a trusted family member.
What a kind soul.
I will miss her but never forget her wit and compassion for those under her care.
I had a privilege to work beside Dr. Lorenzo and Shelly while working at a nursing home in Berkeley Springs. Her visits were welcomed when she shared her knowledge and directed us on the path for quality care. She always had a smile and made those difficult times easily conquered. She was truly dedicated to helping others and gave a 110%. My thoughts and prayers to all of those who are sadden by her loss.
Anita was a joy to work with. I am so fortunate to have had her as a mentor. Prayers for Shelly and your family.
Anita was someone I admired so much as a fervent patient advocate pharmacist. I was a vendor to her company and she always treated me with respect and demanded nothing but excellence from everyone around her. I have to imagine she was just as passionate about her family. I am proud to have been a peer of hers in the profession of pharmacy.
