Virginia C. Creighton

Virginia C. Creighton, 81, of South Charleston went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. She was born on October 19, 1936, in Kanawha County to her loving parents, the late Luther and Garnett Canterbury.

Virginia received her bachelor’s degree in education from Morris Harvey College and her master’s degree in educational counseling from Marshall University. During the late 1950’s and throughout the 1960’s, Virginia taught business and shorthand classes at several area schools including Chapmanville High School, Nitro High School, and South Charleston High School. After retiring from teaching to raise her family, Virginia later returned to work in various administrative roles for the State of West Virginia working first for the Department of Motor Vehicles and later for the Department of Probation and Parole from which she finally retired for good.

Virginia was a born-again Christian who loved the Lord and enjoyed reading the Bible, watching classic movies from the 1940’s, 50’s, and 60’s, vacationing to Dollywood with her husband, and regularly walking her dogs throughout the neighborhood. Most of all, she thoroughly enjoyed being a mother and a grandmother and she loved her family beyond measure.

She is survived by her loving husband Thomas Creighton of South Charleston; her children, Dr. James Gaal and daughter-in-law Tammy Gaal of Charleston, and Dr. Stephen Gaal and daughter-in-law Martha Gaal of Hurricane; her grandchildren, Jordan and Dillon Gaal of Huntington, and Austin and Lauren Gaal of Hurricane; her sister, Pauline Holst of South Charleston; and her nephews Wade Brooks of Goldtown, and Janos Pecsvaradi of Budapest, Hungary. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family.
